Touring with NT Bird Specialists in the Top End
of the Northern Territory,
Australia


Tours offered cover the Nature’s Way triangle of Darwin, Mary River Wetlands, Katherine, Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks and surrounding areas.

Tours will be based on a 3, 4 or 5 day tour picking up and dropping off in Darwin. Tours will be in good 4 WD vehicles, fully accommodated with all meals included (no alcohol included) and one or two cruises as appropriate.

We are happy to tailor make tours to suit groups. We will specialize in small groups and particular purpose groups. Minimum numbers do apply to each tour.

Top End Tour

Including Darwin and surrounds, Mary River Wetlands, Kakadu National Park Pine Creek areas.

Day one – Early pick up from Darwin accommodation and then spend the day heading round Darwin, with varying environments such as coastal, woodlands and monsoonal. Then head to Fogg Dam and head for the night’s accommodation at Mary River Park.

Sites to be chosen will suit group’s needs and guides local knowledge ( eg tide times )


Buffalo Creek: Chestnut Rail, Redheaded Honeyeater
Lee Point: Beach Thick-knee, migratory shore birds
Leanyer Sewerage works: large variety of water birds, Yellow & Grey Wagtail, Plovers, Terns
East Point Reserve: Migratory Shore birds, Rose-crowned Fruit-dove, Collared Kingfisher
Botanical Gardens: Rufous Owls
Knucky Lagoon: Black Falcon, Little Curlew, Bush-stone Curlew
Howard Springs Nature Reserve: Rainbow Pitta, Little Kingfisher, Emerald Dove
Fogg Dam: White -browed Crake, Buff-banded Rail, and Brolga
Adelaide River: Mangrove Golden Whistler, Broad-billed Flycatcher
Leaning Tree Lagoon: Little Eagle, & Yellow -billed Spoonbill, Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo
Mt. Bundy scrapes possible Gouldian Finch sightings


Included Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day two – Early morning birdwatching around the area followed by boat cruise on the Mary River. Drive into Kakadu heading for Nourlangie Rock (sandstone region) then off to our accommodation at Gagadju lodge Cooinda.


Woodlands tour: Gouldian finch, Black-tailed Tree-creeper, White-browed Robin
Mary River Cruise: Great-billed Heron, Black Bittern, White-phase of the Grey Goshawk (White Phase)
Mammakala Wetlands: Magpie Geese, Green-pygmy Geese, Glossy Ibis
Noulangie Rock: Chestnut-quilled Rock Pigeon, Banded-fruit Dove, White-lined Honeyeater, Helmeted Friar Bird.


Included Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day three –Sunrise cruise on Yellow Waters, followed by Warradjan Cultural Centre then travel to Gunlom Falls (Sandstone region) for the afternoon.
Accommodation at Mary River Roadhouse.


Yellow Waters Cruise: Little Kingfisher, Azure Kingfisher, Jabiru, White -bellied Sea Eagle
Plum Tree Creek, Gunlom: White-throated Grass Wren, Sandstone Shrike Thrush, Long-tailed Finch

Included Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.


Day four – Travel to Pine Creek for the day’s bird watching experiences, seeing what this gold mining town has to offer. Travel back to Darwin via the Stuart Highway, dropping off at the appropriate accommodation.

Pine Creek: Hooded Parrot, Cockatiel, Northern Rosella, and Gouldian Finch
Copperfield Dam: Partridge Pigeon, Diamond Dove, and Varied Lorikeet
Ferguson River: Gouldian Finch, Hooded Parrot, Square-tailed Kite, Banded Honeyeater, Masked & Long-tailed Finch
Edith Falls: Edith Falls Road: Gouldian Finch, Red-winged Parrot, Crimson Finch

Included Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

All at the guide’s discretion and weather permitting. All accommodation venues are subject to availability on the dates requested.
